Five Months Pregnant Woman Alysia Montaño, Wins The 800 m Race At US Nationals

Last week, Alysia Montaño, ran the 800m in the US Track and Field Championships, despite being about five months pregnant, she won the race! She finished the race in 2min 32.13sec in the qualifying round. She took a relaxed pace at the start and maintained it all the time. Before running, she had consulted her doctor, the doctor not only allowed her but also encouraged her to run!

“I’ve been running throughout my pregnancy and I felt really, really good during the whole process,” Alysia said. “I just didn’t want to get lapped and be the first person to get lapped in the 800.” After getting her doctor’s permission she said, “That took away any fear of what the outside world might think about a woman running during her pregnancy.” “What I found out mostly was that exercising during pregnancy is actually much better for the mom and the baby. I did all the things I normally do, I just happened to be pregnant. This is my normal this year.”
