Driverless Taxi Service To Start In Dubai By 2023!

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has stated that a driverless taxi service would be launched in Dubai next year. The autonomous taxi service will be tested in Dubai this year. It will be formally launched next year and will grow “gradually to reach 4,000 vehicles by 2030”.

“Human errors are responsible for more than 90 per cent of accidents,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA. “Autonomous vehicles are environmentally-friendly electric vehicles and can serve considerable numbers of customers, particularly senior citizens, residents and people of determination.

The RTA has not yet stated how much will the taxi service cost or where the autonomous taxis would go. However, they are collaborating with the American company Cruise, which has just begun operating driverless taxis in San Francisco. They presently only operate at night and in specific places. And, for the time being, the service is free to use.
