Here is UAE’s first fully autonomous taxi called ‘Txai’. These simple rides were revealed at Abu Dhabi’s Smart City Summit by UAE-based business — Bayanat — and will be tested on Yas Island this month. These taxis are made possible by Bayanat’s future tech like AI driving software, geospatial data analytics, and sophisticated learning algorithms.

This November, travellers will be shuttled between nine hotels, restaurants, retail centres, and workplaces on Yas Island for the initial trial phase. The second phase will cover more areas across Abu Dhabi. Also, for safety reasons, there will be a ‘safety officer’ present in the vehicles during the trial phase.

His Excellency Falah Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), said: “DMT is continuously working with its partners in Bayanat and Miral to test the safety of the vehicles, in addition to overseeing the operations to ensure that a state-of-the-art service is provided safely and distinctively, and to ensure compliance with the UAE traffic laws and regulations.”
