Why Road Works Begin During The Summer
The timing is no accident. RTA deliberately scheduled these works during the summer break to take advantage of lighter traffic volumes across the city. With fewer cars on the road, crews can move faster, wrap up projects sooner, and cause far less disruption to daily commuters.
Emirates Road Is About To Get Less Congested
The headline project is the expansion of Emirates Road. Here, two brand-new lanes will be added along a 5km stretch running from the Sharjah side toward Al Amardi Street. Once complete, RTA expects peak-hour journey times along this busy corridor to drop by 25%.
Business Bay & Al Quoz Are On The List Too
Several other high-traffic spots are in line for improvements. The intersection of Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay will see traffic flow upgrades, while Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area is also getting enhancements. Ras Al Khor Road, heading toward Al Khail Road, is another location on the list.
Your Neighbourhood Might Be Getting An Upgrade
RTA is also targeting residential neighbourhoods where congestion has been building. A new lane will be added at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street. The right-turn movement from Ras Al Khor Road toward Dubai-Al Ain Road will be expanding from one lane to two. A lane on Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4, near the entrance to the labour accommodation, is being widened. This upgrade will help increase road capacity, reduce queues, and keep vehicles moving more smoothly.
Schools Are Getting Fixed Up Before The Kids Are Back
With the new academic year around the corner, RTA is getting ahead of the back-to-school rush. New parking facilities will be built for Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2 and Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif. Other traffic measures are also in place to make the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up far less chaotic for parents.

The 28 locations were not chosen at random. Senior officials said the selection was based on technical studies, traffic surveys, and analysis of historical data gathered through intelligent transport systems and surveillance cameras across the city. Public feedback and suggestions also helped pinpoint which areas needed the most urgent attention.
