Summer In UAE Officially Starts This Month – Here’s When

It’s official folks! (So, usually when I say something like that, I’m breaking news that UAE has yet another ‘world’s first,’ or ‘world’s biggest,’ but sadly today’s update is less than appealing). Summer is officially here! Yup, even though it’s felt like summer has been here since mid March, Saturday, June 21st marks the actual start of summer in the UAE. And we have the Summer Solstice to thank for that. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well this Saturday is going to be the longest day of the year and from then onwards temperatures are just going to keep soaring. I think the Dubai heat has already been showing us who the boss is around here, and I fear we aren’t ready for what’s to come this weekend. Come with me, and I’ll share all the details you need to know, before we start melting on the floor like our ice creams.

Longer Days = More Heat

With the summer solstice also comes the longest day of the year, meaning more hours of daylight. While that sounds dreamy for beach days and pool parties, it also means more time for the heat to build up. And with the humidity levels joining the party soon, things are going to feel even hotter than what the weather app tells you. The combo of intense sun and sticky humidity means staying safe in the heat is a top priority this month.

Stay Cool With These Summer Tips

Since summer’s making itself official, it’s the perfect time to brush up on how to beat the heat. Here’s a quick guide to help you stay cool and safe:

1. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle if you’re out and about.

2. Dress for the Heat

  • Light-coloured clothes made of breathable fabrics like cotton are your best bet.
  • Don’t forget your sunglasses, hat, and SPF sunscreen.

3. Avoid the Peak Heat Hours

  • Try to stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM, when the sun is at its strongest.
  • If you must be outside, aim for early mornings or after sunset, when it’s slightly cooler.

4. Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion

  • Dizziness, headache, fatigue, and nausea are early signs.
  • If someone has fainted from sunstroke, move them to a cool area, elevate their feet, and offer small sips of water if they’re conscious.
  • Call emergency services if the person doesn’t regain consciousness or their condition worsens.

5. Choose Indoor or Evening Activities

  • Opt for indoor workouts, malls, or shaded parks with misters.
  • Evening walks or beach visits after sunset are much more enjoyable and safer.

Summer’s Here – Let’s Handle It The Right Way

Every UAE summer brings its own challenge, but with a little planning (and a lot of water), you can enjoy the season safely. Whether you’re planning summer staycations, late-night swims, or just braving the daily commute – stay safe, stay cool, and get ready for the heat to go full throttle this month.

And, of course, be sure to stay tuned to Gulf Buzz, because we’ll give you the best recommendations of cool things you can do around UAE this summer. (Mind the pun).
