The UAE government announced yesterday morning that federal workers will have a Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday off. And, of course, there were many inquiries regarding the relocation. When is it going to happen? Will it have an impact on schools? And what if you’re not a government employee?
Yes, despite the short notice, schools will begin functioning on a new week from Monday through Friday on January 1, 2022.

For the time being, the news is only confirmed for government employees.

So, if you work for a private firm, this does not apply to you for the time being. However, the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dr Abdul Rahman Abdul Mannan Al Awar, has asked private sector enterprises to do the same. To be frank, we can see private enterprises gradually – but steadily – falling into line and working a Monday-to-Friday week as well.
