Is it getting hot in here, or is it just me? All I know is that the temperatures are rising, and so are my excitement levels. As much as I love the UAE during its winter season – cool weather and outdoor brunches, there is absolutely nothing more iconic than Dubai and Abu Dhabi during summer time. While growing up, summers always meant that my family and I would travel outside of Dubai, but now that I’m here on my own, I get to rediscover all the wonders this city has to offer. So, let’s check out all things we can expect to see in Abu Dhabi and Dubai this June together.

2. Guns N’ Roses – Etihad Arena, June 1st

Guys, I don’t know about you, but when I saw the Guns N’ Roses performance in Dubai recently on March 3rd, I had major FOMO. I couldn’t believe how I didn’t make it to their 2023 World Tour. But I have good news for all my fellow Gunners out there… we’re getting a second chance!!

I know even I can’t believe it, but seriously do not miss out this time. Guns N’ Roses are returning to the UAE on June 1st to Abu Dhabi’s very own Etihad Arena stage to continue the Middle East leg of their World tour.

Ticket prices can be found starting at AED 595, and by the looks of it, they’re selling faster than the infamous mango ice cream by Salt. The Golden Circle has already completely sold out, leaving only general admission standard seats available and a small handful of VIP tickets. So, grab them while you still can. I know I will, and remember, second chances like this don’t come around very often.

3. Sleeping Beauty – Dubai Opera House, June 2nd and 3rd

I’m sure we all heard the same fairy tale stories while we were kids at bedtime – there was Cinderella, snow white, peter pan and my most favourite of all, sleeping beauty. I was definitely a Disney princess kid, and my jaw simply dropped to the floor when I heard the classical ballet rendition of Sleeping Beauty was coming to the Dubai Opera House on the 2nd and 3rd of June.

The ballet company, Moscow Ballet La Classique by Elik Melikov, comes all the way from Russia and has been well-established by the Union of Theatre Activists of the USSR since 1990. Their performances include ‘The Swan Lake’, ‘The Nutcracker’, and ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Come watch the elegance and grace of ballet as Dubai is now honoured to host them to perform their renowned ‘Sleeping Beauty’.

4. Royal Camel Racing – Royal Camel Racing Club Dubai, June 3rd

When you think of the desert, you almost immediately think of camels, right? Well, you should because they are basically synonymous with each other. If you want to capture the true beauty of these Arabian animals, there is no better way than to witness them in person during the Royal Camel Race on June 3rd at the Royal Camel Racing Club Dubai. With just a quick 30-minute drive outside the city and tickets for less than AED 100, this event is not one you’ll want to miss.

A fun fact about camels is that they can run up to 65 kilometres per hour (or 40 miles per hour for those of you who don’t like the metric system for some odd reason) which is almost at par with the speed of a racehorse. And with around 160 words for Camel in Arabic, the tradition of camel racing can be traced as far back as the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula and has since been seen as an esteemed sport.

5. Bollywood Superstars: a short story of Indian Cinema – Louvre Abu Dhabi, Currently, till June 4th

Okay, I can say with extreme confidence that there is no bigger Bollywood freak in all of Dubai than me! My mom likes to tell me that my first word was ‘mama’, but I’d like to think that it was the most perfect pronunciation of Shah Rukh Khan’s name. However, this experience I am about to share with you goes far beyond celebrity names; it is a cultivating combination of history, art and cinematography. Currently on display till the 4th of June, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is honouring the Bollywood Superstars: a short story of Indian Cinema exhibit in their prestigious museum.

The exhibit has been praised for fiercely displaying the diversity of the Indian subcontinent in the medium of Indian cinema. When you visit, you can expect to see a wide range of props highlighting those of early storytellers, shadow puppets, photography, Mughal armours, daggers, and mythological and religious lithographs. So, I have a little confession to make here, I’ve been in Dubai my whole life, but I’ve never actually had the chance to see this icon of a building from the inside.
