A Hidden World Beneath Your Feet: Megaliths In The Roots Garden
The journey through “Megaliths in the Roots Garden” doesn’t stop where you think it does. While the upper level already feels otherworldly, the experience continues downstairs. And this is where things get really special.
On the newly opened lower floor, the roots of surrounding trees stretch downwards and hang freely in mid-air. Almost as if they’re floating between two worlds. Supported by an environment that allows them to grow suspended in the air, these roots sit among towering clusters of megaliths, creating a powerful visual conversation between nature and architecture.
This hidden extension tells a quiet but powerful story about resilience, balance and coexistence. Showing how life can grow and thrive in the most unexpected spaces.

Playing With Light: Massless Suns & Dark Suns
Next, visitors are guided into “Massless Suns and Dark Suns”, an artwork that turns light itself into the main character. Created as a Cognitive Sculpture, the artwork exists only through perception. Guests move through glowing spheres of light that respond to their presence, creating a constantly shifting space where brightness and darkness melt into one another. Just like the gravity-defying roots below, this artwork challenges what we think art is supposed to be, proving that sometimes, art lives purely in how we feel it.

Where Nature, Technology & Imagination Meet
Together, these new artworks take visitors on a journey of discovery, guiding them through spaces where nature, structure and perception collide. Each room flows into the next, encouraging exploration and curiosity while redefining how we connect with art.
As Takashi Kudo, Communications Director of teamLab, explains:“At teamLab Phenomena, we are always seeking new ways to enhance our visitors’ experience, creating spaces that inspire curiosity, connection and creativity. The introduction of these two new artworks reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation and reimagining how art can engage the senses and encourage exploration. These new additions not only expand the possibilities of interactive art but also invite visitors to immerse themselves in ever-evolving phenomena that spark wonder and leave lasting impressions.”
Living Art That’s Never the Same Twice
Both “Massless Suns and Dark Suns” and “Megaliths in the Roots Garden” reflect teamLab Phenomena’s idea of “living art.” That means no two visits are ever the same. The artworks evolve in real time, responding to visitors’ movements and the surrounding environment. The result is a living, breathing experience that grows and changes around you. Far beyond what traditional art spaces offer.
