Toll Fee Adjustments During The Holy Month
To make travel easier for those fasting, Salik has announced slight modifications to the new toll pricing structure. The changes aim to provide relief during key meal times – Suhoor and Iftar. Here’s what you can expect:
- Free Travel During Suhoor: From 2 AM to 7 AM daily, all Salik toll gates will be free of charge. This allows drivers to reach mosques for sunrise prayers without paying toll fees.
- Morning Rush Hour Discount: Between 7 AM and 9 AM on weekdays, drivers will pay AED 4 instead of the usual AED 6.
- Peak Hour Charges: Between 9 AM and 5 PM, the toll fee will be AED 6.
- Evening Rates: From 5 PM to 2 AM, the fee will be reduced to AED 4, giving people an easier way to commute for Iftar gatherings.
- Free on Sundays: On Sundays, drivers will have to pay AED 4 from 7 AM to 2 AM, with free tolls between 2 AM and 7 AM.
Since it’s still unsure if Ramadan will start on Friday, February 28, or Saturday, March 1, Salik will make an official announcement closer to the time as to when these new Ramadan Salik timings will begin.
How Ramadan Pricing Differs From The Regular System
Outside of Ramadan, the dynamic pricing structure will generally apply charges of AED 6 between 6 AM and 10 AM, as well as from 4 PM to 8 PM. Evening rates will be AED 4 between 8 PM and 1 AM. However, during Ramadan, there will be a single eight-hour peak pricing window instead of the usual two four-hour blocks. Additionally, the extended free toll period from 2 AM to 7 AM aims to support those observing the fast.
With these changes, Salik aims to make commuting more convenient for those observing Ramadan while continuing efforts to manage traffic flow efficiently across Dubai.
