1. Banks To Phase Out OTPs
Say goodbye to those one-time passwords cluttering your SMS inbox. From now on, banks across the UAE are shifting away from OTPs sent via text and email for high-value transactions. This transition has been rolling out gradually since mid-2025, and it’s now entering its final phase. Instead of entering a one-time code, users will need to approve payments directly through their bank’s mobile app using more secure authentication methods.
For context, OTPs have long been used as a quick verification step for online purchases, QR payments, and logins. They are now being replaced with secure, app-based security systems designed to reduce fraud risks. Expect the change to fully take effect over the next few weeks.
2. Dubai Schools To End Student Remote Learning
After a temporary shift to remote classes due to geopolitical tensions across the region, students in Dubai are preparing to head back to campus. Schools, along with university students, have been learning from home since late March. Distance learning will continue until Friday, 3 April, after which in-person classes are expected to resume. Authorities will continue to assess the situation weekly, so while classrooms are reopening, there may still be adjustments as conditions evolve.
3. Major Airlines Expected To Return To DXB
Flight schedules have taken a hit recently, but things are slowly gearing up for a comeback. Several international airlines that had paused operations to Dubai are now planning to resume services in April. Among them, some European and regional carriers are targeting early April restarts. Some airlines are also aiming for later in the month. That said, timelines are still fluid. Travellers are advised to double-check with airlines directly before making plans, as schedules may change at short notice.
4. Temporary Residence Permit Rule To End
A temporary grace period that allowed residents with expired permits to re-enter the UAE is coming to a close. This exception, which had been in place until 31 March, will officially end. This means standard residency rules will resume from 1 April. From that point on, anyone with an expired permit will need to follow the usual re-entry procedures, including securing the appropriate documentation before travelling back.
