In an exhilarating triumph for architectural innovation, Expo City Dubai’s remarkable Al Wasl dome has earned its place in the prestigious Guinness World Records as the world’s largest interactive immersive dome. This translucent 360-degree marvel, the centrepiece of Expo 2020 Dubai, continues to captivate hearts and minds at the core of the vibrant Expo City Dubai, a flourishing residential and commercial development nestled in the Dubai South area. A Testimony To Architectural Excellence

The heart of Expo City, Al Wasl Plaza, boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 130 meters in diameter and towering over 67 meters high—large enough to accommodate the Leaning Tower of Pisa beneath its majestic dome. Inside, visitors are treated to immersive 360° videos projected onto the dome’s surface, thanks to a staggering 252 laser projectors.

Designed by the renowned Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Al Wasl Plaza’s construction incorporated unique materials that ensure year-round use. Its semi-outdoor space features a steel trellis framework inspired by the Expo 2020 logo, which is proudly displayed at the apex of the dome.

A Hub of Creativity & Well-being

Amna Abulhoul, the executive creative director for events and entertainment at Expo City Dubai, highlighted the dome’s role in bringing people together. She shared exciting plans, from interactive augmented reality experiences to a tribute to the legendary explorer Ibn Battuta, the launch of a sustainable cafe, and the return of popular Winter City and Hai Ramadan festivities. These offerings affirm the city’s position as a hub of creativity, innovation, and well-being.

A Vibrant Calendar Of Events

The excitement continues with a diverse calendar of events. In October, a musical performance will spotlight Greenland’s melting ice sheets. The Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, the first of many collaborations with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, will feature Japanese artist Aimi Sekiguchi and Emirati painter and sculptor Mattar Bin Lahej.

November brings the esteemed Cop28, a global climate summit held in the green zone under the dome’s auspices. Following Cop28, an Artificial Intelligence Film Festival will grace the dome.

From December 8 to January 7, Al Wasl will shine as the centrepiece of the Winter City celebrations.

The calendar for the following year is equally vibrant, with events like Break the Block, an arts and music festival in January, and Untold, an electronic dance music festival from February 15 to 18. March 11 to April 10 will likely see the return of Hai Ramadan, honoring the spirit of the Holy Month.
