RTA has just announced that speed limits on five major roads in Dubai will change from November 1, 2026. Three roads are getting a higher limit and two are getting a lower one. The changes apply in both directions. Keep reading for all the important details you need to know.
Roads Where You Can Go A Little Faster
Good news first! These three roads are getting a speed boost:
- Al Asayel Street: Up from 60 to 80 km/h, between Oud Maitha Street and Al Meydan Street.
- Al Mustaqbal Street: Up from 60 to 70 km/h, between Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Meydan Street.
- Latifa bint Hamdan Street: Up from 60 to 70 km/h, between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Roads Where You’ll Need To Ease Off
On these two roads, the limit is coming down, so keep an eye on your speedometer:
- Al Rebat Street: Down from 100 to 90 km/h, between Marrakech Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
- Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street: Down from 80 to 70 km/h, between 2nd December Street and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street.
What’s Happening On The Roads Before The Change
The RTA worked with Dubai Police on these changes. Before they kick in, speed limit signs will be replaced along the affected roads. Speed cameras will also be reprogrammed to match the new limits, so they’ll be ready from day one.
How Are Speed Limits Decided?
The RTA looks at a mix of factors when setting a limit:
- How many vehicles use the road
- The road’s design speed
- How much urban development there is along it
- The speed vehicles actually travel, measured using the 85th percentile speed
- Pedestrian activity and other key facilities nearby
The RTA says it regularly reviews speed limits and traffic conditions on Dubai’s major roads as part of its ongoing road development and traffic improvement projects.
