Planning Hajj just got a lot less complicated. Saudi Arabia has launched a new package for pilgrims coming from abroad, covering everything from the moment they arrive to the moment they head home, all in one online contract. Keep reading for all the important details you need to know.
When Does Hajj Happen?
Hajj takes place every year between 8 and 13 Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. Because that calendar follows the moon, the dates in the regular (Gregorian) calendar shift from year to year. They also depend on when the crescent moon is spotted, as with every Hijri month.
According Saudi, the package lets Hajj offices and agencies outside Saudi Arabia build programmes to suit different groups of pilgrims. The contract setup is clear and flexible, so there’s room to tailor things.
What’s A Part Of The Package?
The package covers four main services:
- Holy sites services
- Hospitality facilities in Makkah and Madinah
- Transportation
- Catering
There are also optional extras if you want to add more to your experience. Everything is handled through one contract on the “electronic path” platform.
Registration For UAE Residents
If you’re a UAE citizen hoping to perform Hajj next year, registration opened on September 14 and closed on September 25, according to the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat. Pilgrims will be chosen through an automated screening process, using the approved criteria and requirements. The Saudi ministry says this is part of its early preparations for the 1448 AH Hajj season, which falls in 2027.
Applications are expected to be fully screened by October 9, when the names of approved UAE pilgrims will be announced. After that, they’ll be contacted to complete the next steps.
A Health Note For Travellers
The UAE has added people travelling for Hajj and Umrah to the priority groups for seasonal flu vaccination, as health authorities expand the 2026-27 national campaign. Health officials say vaccines have already been sent out to healthcare facilities across the country.
Whether you’re planning your first Hajj or helping a group get ready, this new package aims to make the journey a little smoother from start to finish.
