What’s Actually Changing
The new scanners being installed mean you won’t need to pull your laptop or liquids out of your bag anymore. Eventually, you can leave your shoes and belt on too. Griffiths said that the whole security process is getting “slicker, quicker, faster, and more convenient,” and those old habits of stripping down at the checkpoint are on their way out for good.
How It Works
These aren’t just regular scanners. They use high-resolution 3D imaging, so security staff can see everything they need to inside your bag without you having to unpack it. That means less fumbling, less waiting, and a much smoother walk to your gate.
The End Goal
This rollout has been in motion for a while now. But the plan isn’t to swap out a few machines here and there. Griffiths says the aim is to eventually replace all the older equipment across DXB. So every single passenger gets the same fast, hassle-free experience no matter which terminal or checkpoint they pass through.
On top of the security upgrades, Griffiths also teased something for shoppers. Terminal 1’s hammerhead is about to reopen after a full refurbishment, with a brand-new retail area he promises will “blow you away,”
