Abu Dhabi’s Latest Indoor Wildlife Escape At Al Qana
Opening on 9th January, The Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi will welcome visitors at Al Qana. It’s almost impossible to miss this spot as it’s located just five minutes from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and directly opposite the National Aquarium. Whether you plan to visit during the weekend or during summer break, this garden is an indoor attraction, making it a year-round nature escape.

More Than 10,000 Butterflies Under One Roof
Designed to house over 10,000 butterflies, these climate-controlled biodomes are inspired by the tropical landscapes of Asia and the Americas. The layout allows visitors to wander freely along planted walkways, pass koi ponds, and observe butterflies up close as they flutter through recreated rainforest environments.
An Experience That’s Ethical and Conservation-Led
According to officials, the garden sources these butterflies through conservation-focused breeding programmes in Costa Rica and the Philippines that work closely with small-scale farming communities. And each month, Al Qana releases a portion of butterflies back into their native habitats to support pollination and protect local ecosystems.

Experiencing Nature Indoors
Senior officials of the attraction share that the goal was to create a calming, nature-led space within an entirely indoor environment. The purpose of this indoor garden is to offer residents and visitors the opportunity to reconnect with wildlife in the heart of the city.
More Than Butterflies – Meet The Garden’s Other Exotic Residents
At Al Qana, butterflies aren’t the only stars of the show. The attraction will also feature a selection of rare and fascinating animals, including:
- A two-toed sloth
- Palawan bearcat
- Tamandua
- Sri Lankan giant squirrel
- Cuvier’s dwarf caiman
