1. Taking Off
The headline act of this transformation? Dubai’s aerial taxi service. And just so you know, test flights have already begun. In partnership with Joby Aviation, a fully electric aircraft recently completed a crewed test flight from Margham to Al Maktoum International Airport, marking a huge step toward making sky commutes a reality.
These sleek aircrafts are designed to carry 4 passengers and a pilot. Reaching speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour and covering a range of around 160 kilometres per charge. Imagine zipping from Downtown Dubai to the Marina in minutes – sans all those red lights, of course. To make this happen, dedicated vertiports (air taxi terminals) are in development, including a multi-level facility near Dubai International Airport. More landing sites are being planned across the city in collaboration with major developers. If everything stays on track, Dubai could see commercial aerial taxi services as soon as 2026.
2. The Big Dubai Metro Expansion
While the skies get busier, the ground beneath will also see major change. The upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line and wider rail network expansion are set to make car-free living much easier. Once the upgrades are completed by 2029, Dubai’s metro system will stretch an impressive 131 kilometres. Featuring 78 stations and an expanded fleet to better connect the city’s growing neighbourhoods.
RTA is also gearing up for massive road and transport enhancements. By the end of 2027, the city will see 72 new road and transport projects. Spanning 226 kilometres of roads and 115 bridges and tunnels.
3. The Future Loop
One of the city’s most exciting lifestyle-focused projects is The Future Loop, part of the Dubai Walk Master Plan. Just picture a two-kilometre elevated, partially climate-controlled walkway connecting major landmarks . Like the Museum of the Future, World Trade Centre, Emirates Towers, and more.
With shaded paths, greenery, and temperature-controlled sections, The Future Loop is designed to make walking not just practical, but enjoyable even in Dubai’s warmer months. Over time, the plan aims to expand into thousands of kilometres of upgraded walkways and over 100 pedestrian bridges and tunnels. Encouraging more people to walk or cycle. The goal? To boost walking and micromobility trips from 13% to 25% by 2040.
A City Built For The Future & Living It In The Present
Dubai is already in its way to reshaping its entire transportation experience to be smarter, faster, and greener. Sheikh Hamdan’s vision for mobility future shows that Dubai is not just keeping up with the times, but creating the roadmap for others to follow.
