Shorter Visa Validity — But The Same Stay Duration
According to Saudi’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is reducing the validity of the Umrah visa from 3 months to 1 month from the date it’s issued. This change will take effect in November. The new rule means that if a pilgrim doesn’t enter the Kingdom within 30 days of their visa being issued, it will automatically be cancelled.
But here’s some good news. Once you’ve arrived in Saudi Arabia, you can still stay for up to 3 months to perform Umrah and explore the holy cities. The update only affects how long your visa remains valid before you travel, not your stay once you’re there.
Why The Change?
The decision aims to help prevent overcrowding in Makkah and Medina during the popular cooler months. As this is when visitor numbers tend to surge. Ahmed Bajafar, an advisor to the National Committee for Umrah and Visit, explained that the change is designed to make the pilgrimage smoother and more comfortable for everyone.
Extra Travel Requirements To Keep in Mind
In addition to the new validity period, Saudi Arabia recently introduced stricter entry rules for Umrah pilgrims. These include mandatory pre-booking of accommodation and confirming transport arrangements through the official platforms Nusuk or Masar upon arrival.

One of the Kingdom’s more welcoming moves this year is that anyone holding a valid Saudi visa can perform Umrah during their stay.
