We are 24 hours away from Dubai introducing the new variable toll system under Salik on Friday, January 31st, which means lots of new changes are making their way to drivers in Dubai. Here’s everything you need to know about the updated pricing structure, designed to improve traffic flow across the city.
Weekday Toll Charges
From January 31st onwards, these will be the new dynamic prices during weekdays:
- Peak Hours: From 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm, motorists will be charged AED 6.
- Off-Peak Hours: Between 10 am to 4 pm and 8 pm to 1 am, the toll drops to AED 4.
- Middle of the Night: From 1 am to 6 am, passage will remain toll-free.
Sunday-Specific Rates
- Flat Fee: Sundays will see a consistent toll rate of AED 4 throughout the day.
- Free Hours: From 1 am to 6 am, drivers can enjoy toll-free access.
- Exceptions apply on public holidays, major events, or special occasions when different rules might be implemented. (Stay tuned to Gulf Buzz for these sorts of official announcements)
Separate Toll Pricing During Ramadan
The toll system will adapt during Ramadan to align with adjusted schedules:
- Peak Rates (AED 6): From 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays.
- Off-Peak Rates (AED 4): From 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 2 am the following day.
- Free Hours: Between 2 am and 7 am (Monday to Saturday).
- Sundays: A flat rate of AED 4 applies from 7 am to 2 am, with free access between 2 am and 7 am.
Toll Gate Rules Stay The Same
Drivers passing through the same toll gates (such as Al Safa North/South or Al Mamzar North/South) in the same direction within one hour won’t incur extra charges. This applies regardless of the time of day.
