Starting July 1, 2025, there’s a big change coming for businesses using WhatsApp. Instead of being charged per conversation, companies will now be charged for every message they send on the platform. This switch is part of WhatsApp’s plan to make pricing simpler for it’s users. I have all the important details you need to know, so keep reading to find out more.

What’s Changing Exactly?
Up until now, businesses paid based on conversations. But from July 1, 2025 at 12am (based on the time zone of the WhatsApp Business Account), pricing will be per message now. Here’s what this means:
- Every marketing message, authentication message, or utility message sent outside of a customer service window will count as one charge each.
- If you send a marketing message followed by two utility messages, that’s three separate charges.
- However, if those utility messages are sent while your customer service window is still open, only the marketing message will be charged.

But Some Messages Will Be Free Now
But luckily, utility template messages sent in reply to a customer’s message will now be free. That gives businesses more flexibility to interact with users without racking up extra costs. Especially during those ongoing conversations.
How Will Charges Be Calculated?
WhatsApp will charge only for delivered messages, so if a message doesn’t go through, you don’t pay. The price is based on two things:
- Where your customer is located – Charges depend on the country code of the recipient’s phone number.
- What type of message you’re sending – Whether it’s for marketing, authentication, or a utility update.

If your business uses WhatsApp to stay connected with customers, get ready for this new pay-per-message model from July 1, 2025. It’s designed to be more transparent, more flexible, and in line with global messaging standards.
