Celebrating History Through Art
This stunning mosaic, titled the Zayed and Rashid Mural, has transformed the slopes of the Hatta Dam Waterfalls into a breathtaking cultural landmark. The 2,198.7 square metres mural captures an iconic historical photograph of the founding fathers, taken during the early days of the UAE’s formation. This tribute replaces the previous mural on the Hatta Dam Waterfalls, continuing the tradition of honouring the UAE’s visionary leaders through art.
A Collaborative Masterpiece
This ambitious project was made possible by Brand Dubai, the creative wing of the Dubai Media Office, in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). It’s part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, which highlights the UAE’s cultural and historical milestones from Flag Day on November 3 to National Day on December 2.

A Labour Of Love & Natural Beauty
Creating this masterpiece was no small feat. Over 100 artisans, both local and international, worked tirelessly for 4 months to assemble the mosaic. Using 1.2 million individual pieces, the design was handcrafted with meticulous care to reflect the UAE’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. The materials include local rocks and soil from the Hatta region, and the colours of the mosaic are inspired by the traditional attire of the founding fathers. This thoughtful design ensures the mural blends perfectly into the rugged, dramatic landscape of the Hajar mountains.
A New Dubai Bucket-list Item Unlocked
A visit to Hatta will no longer be complete without seeing this awe-inspiring mosaic. So make sure to witness it for yourself – it’s a story of the UAE told through art, unlike anything else you’ve seen before in Dubai!
