Mosquito Season Begins In UAE – Do’s & Don’ts To Stay Safe

Ah, autumn in the UAE. The heat eases up, the air feels fresher, and just when you’re ready to enjoy it all – mosquitoes show up uninvited! But more than just a buzzing nuisance, these tiny pests can really pose real health risks, which is why knowing the do’s and don’ts of mosquito season is a must for every resident. Keep reading to find out all the important details you need to know.

Do’s: What You Should Do To Stay Safe

1. Avoid stagnant water
Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so steer clear of these spots. If you notice stagnant water around your area, report it to the authorities by calling 8003050.

2. Keep your home protected
If you love keeping the windows open, make sure flyscreens are installed. They let in the cool breeze but keep the bugs out.

3. Use safe alternatives for kids and pets
Got little ones or furry friends at home? Try UV insect traps instead of chemical sprays. They work best in the dark and are much safer indoors.

4. Call in the experts
In Dubai, you can request free pest control through Dubai Municipality’s hotline, app, or even their website chatbot. If you’re going private, always pick an authorised pest control provider listed on the Municipality’s site.

Don’ts: What To Avoid

1. Don’t ignore the first intruders
If mosquitoes get inside, don’t wait it out. Chemical sprays are still the quickest way to deal with them before they multiply.

2. Don’t leave windows or doors open without flyscreens
Even a small gap is enough for a few mosquitoes to slip in—and once they’re inside, it’s hard to get rid of them all.

3. Don’t hire unlicensed pest control
Using illegal or untrained providers can be dangerous. Misuse of pesticides puts your health and safety at risk, so always stick with trusted sources.

What UAE Authorities Are Doing For You

And it’s not just on you – authorities across the UAE are actively fighting the mosquito problem too.

  • Dubai has set up 237 solar-powered smart traps across the city. These eco-friendly devices monitor mosquito numbers around the clock, making it easier to target breeding hotspots.
  • Sharjah carried out a citywide mosquito control drive in April, tackling public roads, parks, residential spaces, and more.

Don’t Let The Buzz Bother You

Mosquito season doesn’t have to ruin your plans. By following these simple do’s and don’ts (and with the added efforts of local authorities) you can enjoy the cooler days with the buzzing in your ear and ,of course, bite-free.
