Expected Dates For Eid Al Fitr
As we all know, Ramadan started on Saturday, March 1, which means it’s far easier for us to predict when Eid Al Fitr will begin. However, because the Islamic calendar follows lunar sightings, the exact date can only be officially confirmed closer to the time.
Here’s what we know so far:
- If Ramadan lasts 29 days: Eid will start on Sunday, March 30 – meaning public holidays on Sunday, March 30, Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1. Paired with Saturday, March 29, that’s a four-day long weekend!
- If Ramadan lasts 30 days: Eid will start on Monday, March 31 – meaning holidays on Monday, March 31, Tuesday, April 1, and Wednesday, April 2. That means a five-day weekend when combined with Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30, weekend!
Public Holiday Rules For Eid
When the UAE Cabinet announced the public holidays for 2025, they confirmed that the Eid Al Fitr holiday would run from Ramadan 30 (if the month is 30 days) until Shawwal 3. The government also introduced a new rule allowing some public holidays to be carried over if they fall on a weekend. However, this does not apply to Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha – so if Ramadan is 29 days and Eid starts on Sunday, March 30 we will not get any extra days for these celebrations during the working week.
