Asking if you’ve ever been stuck in traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road would pretty much be a rhetorical question as this point – but it looks like all of that is about to change! RTA has just completed major improvements to ease congestion and speed up travel times on the iconic road. These enhancements have increased SZR’s road capacity by 25%, making your daily commutes much faster and more efficient. Come with me, and let’s get into all the details.

Key Improvements Made To The Road
- Wider Roads for Smoother Traffic:
The service road next to Financial Centre Metro Station (heading towards Abu Dhabi) has been expanded from three to four lanes. This single change has already made a huge impact. Now, the road can handle 3,200 vehicles per hour instead of 2,400, reducing congestion and cutting travel time in this area from 5 minutes to just 2!
- Longer Merging Lanes for Easier Transitions
Another critical upgrade was made at the merging section between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street (Dubai-bound). Extending the merging distance has significantly improved traffic flow, reducing travel time from 4 minutes to 3 and preventing frustrating bottlenecks.

What Does This Mean For You?
With these enhancements, you can now expect a more seamless driving experience, shorter commutes, and fewer traffic delays – meaning you can get to where you need to be without the need to leave the house extra extra early to hit Sheikh Zayed Road! Sounds like a huge relief to me.
