When & Where Was The Moon Sighted?
The crescent was spotted at 4:30pm UAE time in Abu Dhabi by the Khatiam Astronomical Observatory. Which is affiliated with the International Astronomy Centre. At the time of sighting, the moon was positioned 6.7 degrees away from the sun.
Why Rajab Is So Important?
Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar and is also one of the four sacred months in Islam. It holds deep spiritual value and is traditionally seen as a time for reflection, prayer, and preparation ahead of the holy month.
What This Means For Ramadan 2026
The sighting of the Rajab crescent officially begins the three-month spiritual journey to Ramadan. After Rajab comes Shaban, which will also begin with a new moon sighting. Ramadan itself will only start once the Ramadan crescent is seen. Which is usually around two lunar months after Rajab begins. With current standing prediction, Ramadan is expected to take place from 19 February, 2026 till 18 March, 2026. As always, the exact dates depend on actual moon sightings closer to the time.
The Ramadan Countdown Begins
With Rajab now underway, many Muslims start easing into a more mindful routine. Using these weeks to prepare spiritually for fasting, prayer, and reflection. While Ramadan is still a couple of months away, this moon sighting is a clear sign that the holiest time of the year is getting closer.
