If you stay tuned to Gulf Buzz, then you’ll know last week we informed you that U.S. visa appointments were being put on a temporary hold. And that meant a few people had to change their plans of an America summer this year. Well it looks like if you rerouted your plans from the U.S. to Europe you’re going to have no better luck either. Travel agencies across UAE have confirmed that no Schengen visa appointment slots are available until at least mid-August – and even those are disappearing just as fast. So unless you’re one of the lucky ones who already booked a visa appointment well in advance, that European summer’25 is looking more likely to be a ’26. Come with me, and I’ll share all the important details you need to know.

Why The Wait Is So Long
The rush for Schengen visas this year is higher than usual. Countries like France and Italy are topping the list of preferred destinations, but the surge in demand is seriously clogging the system. A even if you somehow manage to get a visa appointment, there’s still a processing time of 2 to 4 weeks, which means most people simply won’t get their visa in time for a summer holiday. Many travel agents in UAE are explaining how there are zero appointments available for any country at the moment.
Time To Get Your Eyes On A New Prize
With Europe (and America) off-limits for now, many UAE residents are pivoting and setting their sights on easier and more accessible travel options. African and Asian countries are quickly climbing the popularity charts. And for good reason! Some African destinations that are recommended this summer include Kenya, South Africa and Zanzibar just to name a few. And the, of course, you’ll always have your classic destinations like Thailand, Bali, Georgia, Armenia and many more. All these countries offer a variety of scenic beauty, vibrant cultures, and faster, simpler visa processes.
Be Flexible, Think Outside The Box
While the situation may improve in the coming months, agents are encouraging residents to stay flexible and open to exploring new destinations. There’s a whole world of unforgettable travel experiences out there that don’t involve a Schengen visa at all. From African safaris to Asian adventures, the world is always full of great options.
