Often find yourself racing against the clock to grab your flight from Dubai’s International Airport to Maktoum International Airport? Then this transport glow-up could change how you travel across the city. Especially when you’re already running late at the baggage carousel and have to rush to catch your next scheduled flight. A brand-new Airport Express Line is in the works, designed to link Dubai’s two major airports while cutting through key neighbourhoods along the way. If approved, this means faster airport runs, smoother commutes, and a whole new way to experience the Metro. Here’s everything you need to know.
Arrived In The UAE, And You’ve Got A 24 Hour Layover In Dubai? Here’s What To Do & See
A 55KM Airport Link Between DXB & DWC
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is currently exploring plans for a 55-kilometre Airport Express Line that would directly connect Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
The proposed route is expected to begin at the existing Red Line station in Al Garhoud, near DXB, and extend to DWC in Jebel Ali. However, the project is still in its early stages, and consultants have been invited to study and design the full scope of the line.
Five New Metro Stops Across Key Areas
The proposed line won’t just connect airports. It will also pass through some of Dubai’s busiest and fastest-growing districts. The initial plans suggest five stations along the route, including stops in Al Jaddaf and along Al Khail Road. The routes also include a brand-new station in Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC). From JVC, two additional branches are expected:
- One heading towards the Emirates Golf Club
- Another extending towards Business Bay
This means the line could serve both residential communities and major business hubs, making it useful far beyond airport transfers.

Expect Airport-Style Services At Metro Stations
Early plans suggest the Airport Express could offer services typically found at airports, right at select stations. Passengers may be able to:
- Check in for flights remotely
- Drop off baggage before reaching the airport
- Complete security screening in advance
The goal is to create a seamless airport-to-train experience, cutting down time spent at terminals and making travel significantly more efficient.
It’s All Part Of Dubai’s Bigger Aviation Vision
The Airport Express Line ties into Dubai’s long-term transport and aviation strategy. Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to play a much bigger role soon, with plans to eventually handle up to 260 million passengers annually. The express line would act as a crucial link supporting that growth. This project also sits alongside other upcoming rail expansions, including the Blue Line and additional Metro developments designed to improve connectivity across the city.

What To Expect
Right now, the project is still in the design and study phase, with proposals under review. While no official timeline has been confirmed yet, the concept signals a clear shift towards faster, more integrated travel across Dubai.
Dubai never really does ‘small’ when it comes to infrastructure. And if this facility moves ahead, the Airport Express Line can reshape how residents and visitors move between key parts of the city. If you want the latest updates on this project, then don’t forget to keep reading Gulf Buzz.
