If you’re a drone owner in the UAE, some big changes have just been announced, and I’m here to keep you updated with them. These new rules around drones are designed to improve safety and ensure that everyone operates drones responsibly. Come with me, and I’ll break down all the important details you need to know.
If your personal or commercial drone already has a registration certificate, don’t think you’re out the water just yet. Unfortunately, all certificates issued before January 6, 2025 are no longer valid. This update comes from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Might have felt really good entering into the New Year with all your ducks in order, but it seems like this one of the few times where being organised didn’t pay off. If your drone registration certificate is dated before January 6th, you’ll have to apply for a fresh new permit. But the good news is that you can do this quickly and easily through the UAE Drones app.
On January 7th The Ministry of Interior announced a partial lift of the drone ban, that has been in place since 2022. And while this news came as a relief for many drone enthusiasts in UAE, the ones in Dubai are still left hanging. That’s right, The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that drones cannot be used recreationally in the city until further notice.
