In an exciting announcement on Sunday, February 4, Dubai revealed plans for a cutting-edge bridge project set to revolutionize travel between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour. Spanning an impressive 1500 meters, this two-lane bridge aims to significantly reduce travel time to the vibrant seafront district nestled between Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters.
New Road To Reduce Travel Time Dramatically
Crafted through a strategic partnership between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and investment firm Shamal Holding, the project aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The visionary plan is designed to enhance the city’s infrastructure, catering to the urban expansion and demographic growth of Dubai.
Director-General of RTA, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, shared exciting details: “The bridge will stretch 1500 meters, providing two lanes in each direction and accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour. It extends from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour Street, passing key intersections like Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street.”
Aesthetic Enhancements & Improved Traffic Flow
In addition to the bridge, the project includes surface improvements at strategic intersections, further optimizing traffic flow. The intersections include the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street, and Dubai Harbour Street.
Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce travel time from the current 12 minutes to an impressive 3 minutes. This improvement aligns with Dubai’s commitment to efficient urban planning and state-of-the-art transportation systems.
Unlocking Dubai Harbour’s Charms
Dubai Harbour, already a bustling lifestyle hub with residential, retail, and hospitality projects, will become even more accessible with this new bridge. Current attractions include the nightlife destination Bar du Port and the Italian restaurant L’Amo Bistro del Mare. Additionally, it hosts the adrenaline-pumping Skydive Dubai with its 770-meter-long runway extending into the Arabian Gulf.
Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer at Shamal Holding, expressed the significance of the bridge: “Upon its completion, the bridge will provide free traffic flow to and from Dubai Harbour. This project is part of our commitment to building extraordinary residential and tourist communities.”
As the 1500-meter bridge takes shape, it promises not just a streamlined commute but an elevated experience connecting the heart of Dubai to its vibrant waterfront district.
