Saudi Arabia outlined ambitions to restructure Riyadh and the country as a whole. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City’s chief executive, Fahd bin Saleh Al Rasheed, spoke of constructing one of the world’s biggest transportation networks, a huge King Salman Park four times the size of New York’s Central Park, planting 15 million trees, and turning the city’s streets into art projects.
He stated that the measures will not be at the price of the environment, to cut carbon emissions in half in less than a decade. “The transformation is not occurring only in Riyadh, it is sweeping the country,” he said. “Riyadh will be more than ready to host the World Expo. “It will be a perfect manifestation of what the World Expo aims to achieve to bring together the world’s best minds, ideas and solutions.”
