Hold on to your iced-lattes folks, because summer in the UAE is basically like living inside a giant air fryer, right now. I’m talking about the months when even my car becomes a personal sauna, malls are now human civilisation points, and the sidewalk is my mom’s new gas stove. But how much longer until we can step outside without melting? Do not worry, summer will end soon, and I mean very, soon (maybe I’m exaggerating a little). You’ll just have to keep reading to find out.

40℃ Feels Like…45℃+
Forget how hot you think it was during March, because summer officially kicked off with the summer solstice on June 21. This means the sun is now working overtime to turn us all into burnt baked potatoes. Astronomically, it has been confirmed that Dubai summer will end on Monday, September 22, meaning this year’s summer period is exactly 3 months and 1 day long. During this period, the temperature will rise from 40℃ onwards.
Not sure if you have noticed, but the temperatures have been significantly lower in the evening, accompanied by winds. This could either be due to sea breeze or diurnal temperature, which means that when the sun starts to set, the land becomes cooler quickly, resulting in cooler and denser air above the surface. This dense air then flows downwards, resulting in winds.
But remember, it is not cold winds. It is the kind of wind that blows on your face when you open the oven.
Countdown To Not Cooking Eggs On Pavement Anymore
Contrary to popular belief, UAE doesn’t always feel like we’re on the sets of Dune (I mean the desert, not Chalamet). We may not have the ‘traditional’ seasons but we sure do have a temperature timeline. And that’s where I come in – to help you get mentally and physically prepared for the coming months. I reckon every Gulf kid has experienced this firsthand, but let me break it down for people who are clueless about this.
June – August
Peak summer starts in June and lasts until the end of August. These months are the ‘Why did I leave my house?’ period. The temperature rises to 45℃+, and stepping outside feels like opening the oven door. It is also vacation season for schools, cause who in the world would want to study in such heat?
When the sun turns up the heat, UAE’s air-conditioned wonders become your ultimate escape. In need of retail therapy? We’ve got the world’s largest shopping mall ready for you (shoutout to Dubai Mall). Looking for adrenaline-rushing fun? Theme parks like IMG Worlds of Adventure has you covered. Crave some chills? Ski Dubai lets you carve through snow in the middle of the desert. This is luxury, adventure, and cool comfort, all rolled into one!
September
Fast forward to September. This month starts teasing you, just like that one situationship. The sun pretends to chill. Mornings are ‘hot yoga’ without the ‘yoga’. But the evenings might drop to a breezy 35℃. This month is when you’re even confused about what kind of clothes to wear, making you wonder, ‘Will it be too hot? Will I need a jacket?’
As the sun dips, the UAE transforms into a playground of golden sunsets and breezy adventures. Experience a heart-racing desert safari, where dunes meet dazzling starlit skies. Or, unwind on pristine beaches with the city’s glittering skyline as your backdrop. Prefer indoors? Explore world-class museums and cafes that bring your friends and family together. The best of your day, all wrapped up in a sweet experience!
October
After a month of the talking stage… we are finally seeing some progress. The hot yoga now becomes yoga without the ‘hot.’ It’s the first whisper of winter in months, with the temperature being around 22℃. I fear you might need a little scarf for the nights.
This is the season the UAE was made for! Dive into aquatic adventures at epic water parks like Aquaventure, which is known for being the biggest water park yet, or sail on a yacht party under the stars. And Global Village, that’s not a place you want to miss. Here, cultures collide in a whirlwind of flavours, performances, and shopping. The weather is ideal, the energy is electric, and every moment is pure magic.

Survival Mode Activated
Sure, I told you about the temperatures in the UAE, but did you really think I would leave you hanging like that? ‘Keep Calm and Stay Cool’, is that not our motto? Below are some useful tactics to help you beat the heat:
1. Stay Hydrated
- Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty (you need to make up for that sweat).
- Carry a refillable water bottle if you’re out and about.
2. Dress for the Heat
- Light-coloured clothes made of breathable fabrics like cotton are your best bet. Don’t wear Black, it absorbs heat quicker.
- Don’t forget your sunglasses, hat, and SPF sunscreen; no one likes a sunburn.
3. Avoid the Peak Heat Hours
- Try to stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM, when the sun is at its strongest.
- If you must be outside, aim for early mornings or after sunset, when it’s slightly cooler.
4. Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion
- Dizziness, headache, fatigue, and nausea are early signs.
- If someone has fainted from sunstroke, move them to a cool area, elevate their feet, and offer small sips of water if they’re conscious.
- Call emergency services if the person doesn’t regain consciousness or their condition worsens.
5. Choose Indoor or Evening Activities
- Opt for indoor workouts, malls, or shaded parks with your family and friends.
- Evening walks or beach visits after sunset are much more enjoyable and safer.
Every UAE summer has its challenges, but with a little planning (and a lot of water), you can enjoy the season safely. Stay safe, stay cool, and beat the heat before it hits you!
