Dubai Shoppers Can Now Pay With Their Face Instead Of Cash

Ever heard the term, your face is worth a million dollars? Well, you can soon pay for groceries with your face! How, you ask? Well, Carrefour and Network International, the Dubai-based payment processor, have launched a new facial recognition payment system in the UAE. The two firms have rolled out Face Pay, which enables customers to make payments at checkout points simply by showing their face.

Dubai Shoppers Can Now Pay With Their Face

PopID, a gateway for verifying an individual’s identity through facial recognition, has developed Face Pay. Shoppers who sign up for the service will not need to bring a card, phone, or cash to complete a transaction, as all they need to do is show their face at the counter. The new technology is being piloted in select stores and will soon be rolled out across the UAE.

This new payment solution aims to make store checkouts quick, convenient, and seamless for customers, according to Andrew Key, Group Managing Director at Network International. The new technology will also help secure businesses from potential fraud. Customers can avail themselves of the service through Carrefour’s mobile app or website.

The introduction of Face Pay is a response to the growing trend of consumers opting for cashless payments in the UAE. In fact, the Middle East and North Africa Fintech Association has predicted that 69% of all transactions in the region this year will be cashless. A separate report from MasterCard has also ranked the UAE economy among those markets that are quickly moving away from cash-based payments.
