1. New Internal Roads Across Key Residential Areas
One of the biggest focuses this month has been improving access within residential communities. RTA has completed the construction of new internal roads in the following areas:
- Nad Al Sheba 1
- Al Warqa 3
- Wadi Al Safa
These upgrades aim to make local travel smoother, improve connectivity between streets, and reduce bottlenecks within neighbourhoods.
2. Better Access & Parking Near Schools
Parents and school-run drivers will be happy to hear about targeted improvements around educational hubs. The RTA has:
- Upgraded the roundabout near GEMS Founders School in Al Mizhar
- Added extra parking spaces in the surrounding area
- Provided additional parking around Dubai Heights Academy in Al Barsha South
These changes are designed to ease congestion during peak drop-off and pick-up times while making parking safer and more convenient.
3. Mirdif Gets A Traffic Flow Boost
To improve movement through one of Dubai’s busy residential zones, the RTA has developed a new roundabout in the Mirdif area. This upgrade is expected to help regulate traffic better, reduce waiting times, and create smoother transitions between connecting roads.
4. Expanded Lanes At Sheikh Rashid Road intersection bridge
Drivers heading towards Al Khail Road can also expect improved traffic flow. The RTA has expanded a lane at the Oud Maitha Road and Sheikh Rashid Road intersection bridge, specifically in the direction of Al Khail Road. This expansion helps ease pressure during peak hours and supports smoother merging at this key junction.
5. Major Upgrade on Al Warqa’a 1 Street
One of the most impactful projects this month is the traffic expansion work on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, stretching from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road.
Here’s what was done:
- The works cover 7 kilometres in both directions
- Four roundabouts were converted into smart, signalised intersections
- Traffic flow has improved by up to 30%, according to earlier RTA announcements
This upgrade plays a big role in easing congestion along one of the area’s busiest routes.
What This Means for Drivers In Dubai
Together, these 5 projects show how the RTA is continuing to fine-tune Dubai’s road network with practical, fast-tracked solutions. From smoother school runs to quicker commutes and better neighbourhood access, January 2026 has already brought noticeable improvements to daily driving across the city.
And if this is just the start of the year, Dubai drivers can expect plenty more road upgrades to come.
