What Is The Dubai Metro Gold Line Project
The Dubai Metro Gold Line is set to become the city’s first fully underground metro route, marking a major milestone in urban transport. Spanning 42km, it’s one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects Dubai has seen to date.
The project will include a tunnel network, nearly double the size of the current metro tunnels. The tunnels are built using advanced tunnelling technology which will minimise disruption to roads, traffic, and surrounding communities.
Dubai Metro Gold Line Launch Date
The Gold Line is expected to officially launch on 9 September 2032. It will be a long-term investment in Dubai’s expanding transport ecosystem.
Routes & Network Connections
The line will feature 18 stations across 15 key areas, running from Al Ghubaiba to Jumeirah Golf Estates. A metro designed with loop systems, it aims to improve connectivity for both short inner-city trips and longer cross-city commutes. One of the major highlights is how seamlessly it connects with the existing and future transport networks:
- Al Ghubaiba will link to the Green Line
- Business Bay will connect with the Red Line
- Meydan will integrate with a future Etihad Rail passenger station
- Jumeirah Golf Estates will connect with the Red Line and Etihad Rail

Communities That Will Benefit From This
The Gold Line will serve approximately 1.5 million residents. The lines will enhance connectivity to 55 major real estate developments. The route also bridges historic districts with newer residential hubs, making the city feel more connected than ever. While final station locations are yet to be confirmed, key communities expected to benefit include:
- Bur Dubai
- Al Ghubaiba
- Dubai Maritime City
- Port Rashid
- City Walk
- Jumeirah
- Satwa
- Zabeel
- Business Bay
- MBR City
- Meydan,
- Ras Al Khor
- Dubai Hills
- Al Barsha South
- JVC
- Dubai Sports City
- Dubai Studio City
- Tilal Al Ghaf
- Al Barari
- Arabian Ranches
- Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Integration With Etihad Rail
The Gold Line is part of a much bigger picture. While the route will improve connectivity, it will also connect to Etihad Rail at key points, including Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates. The integration will also create a seamless link between daily metro travel and inter-Emirate rail travel.
Network Expansion At A Glance
The existing network includes the Red Line, Green Line, and Route 2020, as well as the upcoming Blue Line. With the addition of the Gold Line, Dubai’s metro network will expand significantly:
- Total network length will grow from 120km to 162km
- Stations will increase from 67 to 85
- Overall expansion will reach 35%

Benefits For Commuters
The Gold Line is expected to bring real, everyday improvements for people across the city. Some of these include:
1. Less Congestion, Faster Commutes
Transport authorities estimate the line could reduce congestion on one of the busiest metro corridors by around 23%. It’s also expected to cut over 40 million road trips annually. Daily ridership is projected to hit 465,000 by 2040.
2. Lower Travel Costs & Saves Time
Officials highlight that with the expansion, commuters will benefit from reduced travel times and lower fuel costs, thanks to a shift away from private vehicles and improved network efficiency.
3. Boosted Accessibility & Property Value
Homes and developments near metro stations could see property values rise by up to 20%, driven by increased demand for well-connected communities.
4. Economic & Environmental Impact
Beyond convenience, the Gold Line is expected to deliver long-term economic gains and support the environment. Authorities project a return of over 400% within two decades, while commuters can expect time savings, reduced fuel consumption, and fewer road accidents. Fewer cars on the road mean lower emissions, which support Dubai’s broader sustainability goals and make daily travel more efficient.
