What Is Bus On Demand?

Before we get into more details, let me break it down for those of you who aren’t familiar with this service. Bus on Demand is a service designed to provide a flexible and convenient way to travel within select areas of Dubai. Instead of waiting for fixed-route buses, passengers can request a ride through the Bus on Demand app. The minibus will then pick them up from their location and drop them at their destination. Each minibus can accommodate up to 13 passengers, making it a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to private taxis. This service is particularly useful in areas where traditional public transport routes may not be as frequent.

Where Is The Service Available?

With the recent expansion, the Bus on Demand service now covers 11 zones in Dubai:

  1. Academic City
  2. Al Barsha 1
  3. Al Nahda
  4. Al Rigga
  5. Barsha Heights (New!)
  6. Business Bay
  7. Downtown Dubai
  8. Dubai Silicon Oasis
  9. International City
  10. Karama
  11. Oud Metha (New!)

How Much Does It Cost?

Here’s the part that might shock you the most. RTA has reduced the fare from AED 5 to just AED 2 per trip per passenger! This makes it one of the most affordable ways to get around Dubai.

How To Use The Bus On Demand Service

Using the Bus on Demand service is simple:

  1. Download the Bus on Demand app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
  2. Register and create an account with your payment details.
  3. Enter your pickup and drop-off locations in the app.
  4. Book your ride and track your minibus in real-time.

Payment can be made by tapping your nol card in the bus or by using your credit/debit card on the app, and all buses are equipped with POS machines for easy transactions

A Faster Dubai

According to Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA, the expansion of the Bus on Demand service is part of a larger effort to enhance public transport and achieve the UAE’s goal of 26% public transport usage by 2030.

This smart transport system integrates with the city’s existing network, allowing commuters to easily switch between buses, the Dubai Metro, and the Dubai Tram for a more seamless travel experience. No matter where you are going, the RTA Bus on Demand makes getting around faster, cheaper, and more convenient than ever, within their zones!
