Dubai has announced that flexible working hours for government employees are making a return this summer. Starting from July 1 until September 12, 2025, government departments can now choose to implement a more flexible schedule for their teams, thanks to the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR). Just to be clear, it’s not a one-size-fits-all rule It’s up to each government department to decide how they want to roll it out. And if you’re in the private sector (indoor/office jobs). It all comes down to the good graces of your management if flexible hours/work from home is something they can allow during the summer months.
The flexible model will follow the regular five-day workweek setup, but employees will be split into two groups:
Either way, it’s a win! Whether you get Fridays off or just a shorter Friday, your summer work schedule could feel a lot more relaxed (depending on your department’s choice).
For those working outdoors or in physically demanding jobs, the UAE has also brought back the midday break rule. From June 15 to September 15, outdoor work in direct sunlight is banned from 12.30 pm to 3 pm. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) is already inspecting sites to make sure the rule’s being followed. Companies breaking this rule could face fines starting at AED 5,000 per worker, with penalties going up to AED 50,000.
If you’re a government employee in Dubai, your department will decide whether you’re in for this flexible summer schedule. If you work outdoors in a private sector firm, you’re already protected by the midday work ban. Either way, Dubai’s got plans in place to help people work smarter, stay safe, and enjoy their summer a little more.
