Who Can Apply For A Salik Fee Waiver?
Salik now has a special exemption programme for People of Determination (PoD). If you or a family member falls under any of these categories, you can apply:
- Mental disabilities
- Physical disabilities
- Autism
- Visual disabilities
Even if the vehicle isn’t owned by the PoD, close family members can still apply. Eligible relationships include parents, spouse (with a marriage certificate), children (with a birth certificate), siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Documents You’ll Need For The Application
To apply for the exemption, make sure you have the following ready:
- Copy of the vehicle’s valid registration card (of the PoD or eligible relative)
- Copy of a valid Emirates ID (of the applicant)
- PoD card from the Ministry of Community Development or a Sanad card from the Community Development Authority
- Proof of relationship if the PoD doesn’t own the vehicle
And you have to email all these documents to: specialaccounts@salik.ae
How Long Does The Exemption Last?
The Salik fee exemption is valid for one year. Which means you’ll have to remember to renew it annually to avoid being charged. Renewal requires the same documents, and if you’re changing vehicles, a cancellation form for the old exemption will be needed too.
How To Apply For The Salik Exemption
You have two easy ways to apply:
1. Via Salik Website
- Fill in the required details and upload your documents online.
- The Special Accounts team reviews and verifies everything.
- Once approved, you’ll get a confirmation phone call.
2. Via Email
- Download the commitment form from the Salik website or request it by email.
- Fill out the form and attach your documents.
- Send everything to: specialaccounts@salik.ae
- You’ll be informed once your exemption is approved.
One Vehicle Per Exemption – But You Can Switch!
Each exemption applies to only one vehicle. But if you get a new car, you can transfer the exemption. You’ll just have to cancel the old one first. Plus, if you haven’t bought a Salik tag before, you’ll receive one for free after your exemption is approved. The processing time is 5 working days (as long as your documents are complete) and it’s absolutely FREE of cost
And if you don’t fall under the exception list, don’t forget to keep that Salik card topped up!
