Al Ain just got a whole lot brighter! For the first time ever, Manar Abu Dhabi, (the stunning public light art exhibition by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi), has expanded beyond the capital and arrived in the city’s ancient oases. Since November 1, the historic Al Jimi and Al Qattara oases have been transformed into breathtaking night-time art destinations, blending culture, nature, and creativity in one truly magical experience. I have even more stunning details where that came from, so keep reading to find out.

Lighting Up UNESCO Heritage
This year’s edition is extra special because it marks the first time Manar Abu Dhabi has illuminated UNESCO World Heritage sites. Imagine centuries-old palm trees glowing with artistic light installations, creating an atmosphere where history and innovation meet under the stars. It’s an experience that perfectly reflects the spirit of Al Ain.
The Theme: The Light Compass
Curated under the theme “The Light Compass,” the Al Ain programme features 6 incredible artists:
- Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
- Khalid Shafar
- Maitha Hamdan
- Abdalla Almulla
- Ammar Al Attar
- Christian Brinkmann
Together, they’ve created a journey that guides visitors through light, sound, and space. Each artwork draws inspiration from heritage, nature, and technology, inviting everyone to explore how light connects us to our surroundings and to each other.
Art, Culture & Community
The opening weekend of Manar Abu Dhabi in Al Ain kicked off alongside the Traditional Handicrafts Festival, setting the stage for a vibrant cultural celebration. Visitors can do much more than admire the glowing artworks. There are food and beverage pop-ups, guided tours, and even photography workshops scattered across the oases. It’s the perfect evening outing for families, art lovers, and anyone looking to experience Al Ain in a new light (literally!).
When & Where to Visit
Manar Abu Dhabi runs daily from 5:30pm to 12am until January 4, 2026, giving everyone plenty of time to experience the magic. Entry is completely FREE, making it an easy must-do this season. For those who want a deeper look into the artworks and their stories, guided tours are available daily at 7pm for AED 50 per person.
