A Dubai athlete raised more than AED 25,000 for charity after setting a new world record for the longest continuous row. Sean Burgess rowed 421,954 metres in 50 hours and 17 minutes. To put things in perspective, it’s only a little less than the distance between Dubai and the Saudi border.
Despite weariness, mental fog, and delusion, he managed to sleep for six minutes during the record-breaking row. In doing so, he raised a significant amount of money for a primary school in northern Tanzania.
“I don’t let myself quit because I’m in some pain."

The event’s regulations required Sean to row for at least 50 minutes per hour. During those ten minutes, he may eat, stretch, and use the restroom. And sometime during two of such pauses, he slept off twice, the longest of which lasted four minutes.
“In the last hour, my body was running on adrenalin because I knew I was finishing. I was laughing and talking when I finished, so a lot of people thought I was fine,” Mr Burgess told The National. “But five minutes later, I just crashed. I couldn’t really speak properly, my mind was foggy.”
