The UAE has issued a fresh new AED50 banknote to commemorate the UAE’s and its leaders’ 50th anniversary. The new AED50 note honours the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as well as the UAE’s founders. It also has several significant historical monuments.

It is also the country’s first polymer banknote, making it tougher, more secure, and recyclable. The new note will be distributed through banks and ATMs. Don’t worry, the old-style AED50 notes are still fully functional. The new technology on the notes also contains Braille symbols, which will assist blind and visually handicapped customers.

For those interested in the images on the new banknote, the front ‘features a portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the right, and the memorial picture of the founding fathers after signing the union document in the centre, as well as a picture of Wahat Al Karama – the memorial to the martyrs of the Emirates – on the left.’
