Every Friday evening, The Friday Catch adds a little competition to dinner.
Order a whole fish and choose exactly how you’d like it prepared, from grilled to baked. But before it heads into the kitchen, you’ll be asked to guess its exact weight.
Then comes the moment of truth.
The fish is placed on the scales and, if you’ve somehow managed to get the weight exactly right, your whole fish is complimentary — complete with a celebratory bell to announce your victory to the restaurant.
If you’re wrong, you’ve still got freshly prepared seafood waiting for you, so it’s not exactly a terrible consolation prize.
The Friday Catch runs every Friday from 7pm to 10pm.
A Little Slice Of The Aegean in Dubai
Even without the possibility of winning your dinner, Fish Beach Taverna has a pretty strong setting for Dubai’s cooler months.
The beachfront restaurant takes inspiration from the seaside tavernas of the Mediterranean, with whitewashed furnishings, blue accents, woven lanterns and shaded tables beneath the trees, all just steps from the beach.
The images accompanying the release lean heavily into that Greek-island feel too, with bright white surroundings, blue detailing and sharing dishes covering the table.
The menu follows the same Aegean direction, with seafood and dishes designed for sharing.
Think crispy calamari with Aegean tartare sauce and sea bass with sun-dried tomatoes, shallots and lemon butter, enjoyed outside overlooking the water.

The weekend offering doesn’t stop on Friday night.
Every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 12pm, Fish Beach Taverna serves a traditional Turkish Breakfast, drawing inspiration from the Turkish culinary heritage of the Aegean region.
Rather than individual breakfast dishes, it’s served as a generous sharing spread designed to cover the table.
Expect warm bread and simit, kaymak with honeycomb, börek, traditional cheeses, homemade jams and marinated Aegean olives, alongside a mixture of sweet and savoury dishes.
And because a Turkish breakfast isn’t complete without tea, unlimited freshly brewed Turkish tea is included.
The experience is priced at AED 145 per person.
This Is Exactly What Dubai’s Alfresco Season Is For
There are plenty of places to eat outside in Dubai, but being able to sit just steps from the sand gives Fish Beach Taverna a very different feel from the city’s rooftop terraces and urban restaurants.
The concept is deliberately relaxed: long breakfasts, seafood dinners, tables filled with sharing plates and no particular reason to rush anywhere afterwards.

There are two very different reasons we’d head to Fish Beach Taverna this weekend.
If you’re feeling lucky, go on Friday night, order the whole fish and see whether your fish-weight-estimating skills are unexpectedly brilliant.
If you’d rather take things considerably slower, head down on Saturday or Sunday morning, order the Turkish Breakfast and work your way through simit, börek, kaymak, cheeses, jams and unlimited Turkish tea with the sea in front of you.
Either way, Dubai’s alfresco season is officially back — and this is exactly the sort of place that makes us glad it is.
