May is bringing a bunch of updates across the UAE. And they’ll affect everything from how you get around to the apps you rely on. We’re talking about new bus routes, travel requirements, and a few changes you don’t want to catch you off guard. If you like staying one step ahead, here’s what’s changing this month.
Speaking Of Changes, 5 Major Dubai Road Projects That Will Shorten Your Commute
1. New Dubai-Sharjah Bus Route
Getting between Dubai and Sharjah is about to get easier! Starting May 2, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a new intercity bus route, E308, which will streamline travel between the two Emirates. The route will run between Stadium Bus Station in Dubai and Al Jubail Bus Station in Sharjah, with a one-way fare of AED 12. It’s a budget-friendly option for daily commuters!
That’s not all! The RTA is also tweaking several existing intercity routes to improve efficiency and make journeys smoother overall. Over in Ajman, the Emirate’s public transport authority is also stepping things up. From May 1, a new route will connect Al Musalla Bus Station in Ajman to Al Ain Bus Station, giving passengers even more inter-Emirate travel options.

2. Global Village Closes For The Summer On May 11
It’s almost time to say goodbye (for now) to one of Dubai’s favourite outdoor hotspots. Global Village will officially wrap up its 30th season on May 11, shutting down for the summer months. To mark the season finale, organisers are switching things up. And that means children under 12 can enter for free, expanding on the usual policy that only offers free entry to toddlers, seniors, and people of determination.
3. UAE To Enforce New Climate Change Law
The UAE is taking another big step towards sustainability. Starting May 30, a new climate change law will take effect, requiring businesses to monitor, report, and manage their greenhouse gas emissions. The regulation is designed to support the country’s long-term environmental goals, including carbon neutrality. It also encourages companies to invest in innovation, research, and cleaner technologies. High-ranking officials have indicated that the law will also strengthen cross-sector collaboration and boost the UAE’s role in global climate efforts.
4. WhatsApp Will Stop Working On Older iPhones
If you’re still holding onto an older iPhone, this could be your sign to make that splurge and upgrade. From 5 May, WhatsApp will no longer support devices running iOS versions earlier than 15.1. This applies to models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which will lose access to the app. The update aims to enhance security and ensure the platform runs on devices that can support the latest safety features. These rules apply because older models no longer receive updates from Apple.

5. Thailand Introduces Mandatory Digital Arrival Card
If you were planning to travel to Thailand, then there’s a new step you’ll need to complete before take-off. As of May 1, all international visitors must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), replacing the old paper-based TM.6 form.
The process is entirely digital and requires travellers to submit personal and travel details before arrival. It applies across all entry points, whether you’re flying in, crossing by land, or arriving by sea. The form can be completed up to three days before your trip. Senior tourism officials, the move is part of a wider push to strengthen border controls, and improve overall visitor management.
May is shaping up to be a month of big shifts. While some make life easier, others require a bit of adjustment. Either way, staying ahead of these updates will save you time (and maybe a few surprises). As always, stick with Gulf Buzz for all the need-to-know updates!
