Big changes could be coming to your feed. Meta is currently testing a brand-new subscription tier for Instagram, and it’s packed with features designed to give users more control, insights, and a little extra exclusivity. Right now, this new tier is only being tested in a few countries around the world, and Meta hasn’t shared the full list just yet, but we managed to grab a sneak peek for you. Curious to know what new features your subscription can unlock and how much it’ll cost? Keep reading to find out all the details you need to know. (Number 5 is my personal favourite).
Speaking of personal favourites, it’s a new month which means all my April babies should know of these 20 FREE Things You Can Get On Your Birthday In Dubai!
1. Watch Stories Anonymously
One of the most talked-about features is their ‘Anonymous Story viewing’. You’ll be able to watch someone’s Story without them ever knowing. Perfect for those scroll sessions where you just want to stay under the radar… and definitely not when you’re trying to see what your ex-situationship is up to. (Never).
2. Priority Story Placement
Subscribers may also get priority placement, meaning their Stories could show up right at the front of their followers’ feeds. If you love staying visible (or want more eyes on your content), this could be a big win.
3. Extended 48-Hour Story Time Limit
Another exciting update is the option to keep your Stories live for longer than the usual 24 hours. No more rushing to repost or archive. Your story can stick around a whole extra day.
4. More Control Over Who Sees Your Content
This new tier also gives you more detailed audience controls. Instead of just “Close Friends,” you’ll be able to create multiple custom lists, so you can choose exactly who sees what.
5. Know Who’s Viewing Your Story More Than Once
Curious about who’s rewatching your Stories? You might finally get your answer. The new features include insights like how many times your Story has been viewed again, and even who’s watching it more closely.
6. Boost Your Reach & Engagement
There’s also a fun boost element in the mix. Subscribers could get a weekly “spotlight” to help increase their reach, plus new ways for followers to interact. Including features like “Superlikes.”
Not Meta’s First Subscription Rodeo
Subscription models aren’t new in the social media world. Platforms like Snapchat and X already offer paid tiers, with Snapchat+ reportedly pulling in over 25 million subscribers. It’s also worth noting that this new “Instagram Plus” tier is completely separate from Meta Verified, which focuses more on verification badges and account protection.
When Can You Expect It?
For now, there’s no official word on when this feature will roll out globally or expand to more users. According to reports, places like Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines are part of the trial, with prices sitting at around $2 (roughly AED 7.34) per month. If testing goes well, your Instagram experience might soon come with a premium upgrade option.
Would you pay for these features… or are you happy keeping it free?
