When Is The Next UAE Public Holiday?
UAE National Day, or as it’s now officially called, Eid Al Etihad, is the next (and final) public holiday of 2025. This year, it falls on Tuesday, December 2, and both public and private sector employees will get two days off, meaning December 2 and 3 (Tuesday and Wednesday) will be holidays across the country.
Previously, Commemoration Day (November 30) was also part of the long weekend, but that hasn’t been the case in recent years. Still, the festive energy around National Day always makes up for it. Think flags, fireworks, and full-on UAE pride everywhere you look.
Will We Get A Long Weekend?
Now, before you sigh about the midweek break, don’t lose hope just yet. According to the UAE’s updated public holiday law, if holidays fall in the middle of the week, the government can shift them closer to the weekend — meaning we could very well end up with a long weekend after all!
If that happens, the holiday could be moved to Monday, December 1, giving us Monday and Tuesday off. That’s a four-day weekend (cue the happy dance!). And if the government decides to extend the holiday even further, we might just enjoy a five-day break from Monday, December 1 to Wednesday, December 3. Not bad to end the year, right? And that also give you a perfect dollop of time to enjoy a quick getaway anywhere you’d like.
Extra Perks For Sharjah Residents
If you work in Sharjah, you’re in for an even sweeter deal. Depending on how the holidays are announced, you could enjoy either a five- or six-day weekend. Yes, you read that right. One extra day to relax while the rest of the UAE heads back to work. Lucky you!
What To Expect For Eid Al Etihad 2025
While the full celebration details are still under wraps, we do know that the official festivities will take place in Abu Dhabi, and they’re bound to be nothing short of spectacular. Think fireworks lighting up the skyline, drone storytelling shows, and even traffic fine discounts. Last year, four emirates offered up to 50% off, so keep your eyes open. So, if you’ve got pending fines, this could be your moment!
Why It’s Now Called Eid Al Etihad
If you’re wondering why it’s no longer referred to as just “National Day,” here’s the scoop. “Eid Al Etihad” translates to “Festival of the Union,” representing the unity of the seven emirates that came together to form one nation. The new name was officially introduced in November 2024, highlighting the UAE’s journey of progress, unity, and national pride.
Time To Start Planning!
So there you have it. The final long weekend of 2025 is just around the corner. Whether it turns into a 2-day, 4-day, or even 5-day break, one thing’s for sure – it’s the perfect way to end the year on a high note.
Start making those travel or staycation plans now – December’s going to be one epic 2025 finale!
