Well, this time I have some different kind of news to share with you – your days of road rage just got cut in half! Starting November 1, delivery riders in Dubai will have to start taking things slow (literally). RTA and Dubai Police have announced new rules banning delivery bikes from using the “fast lanes.” What a sigh of relief, right? What’s The New Rule For Riders?
On roads with 5 or more lanes, delivery riders can’t use the two lanes on the left. For roads with 3 or 4 lanes, the leftmost lane is off-limits. However, on smaller roads with 2 lanes or fewer, riders can still use any lane freely.
The new rule isn’t coming out of nowhere. Authorities have noticed a worrying increase in accidents involving delivery riders on high-speed lanes. Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei from Dubai Police explained that reckless riding and failure to follow traffic laws have caused hundreds of accidents.
Keeping Riders & Drivers Safe
Because motorcycles don’t have the same protection as cars, even a small mistake can lead to serious injuries. That’s why the police and RTA are confident that keeping delivery bikes out of fast lanes will make roads safer for everyone. Riders and drivers alike. The new restrictions aim to reduce fatalities, improve road discipline, and make Dubai’s traffic smoother and safer.
How It’ll Be Enforced
The RTA will be teaming up with Dubai Police, the Department of Economy and Tourism, and delivery companies to make sure everyone follows the new rules. You’ll soon start seeing new signs on Dubai roads showing which lanes are off-limits for delivery motorcycles. Similar to the ones you already see which restrict heavy vehicles and trucks. Plus, there’ll be a big awareness campaign across media channels to make sure all riders know the updated rules.

Companies that follow the new rules won’t just avoid fines, they could also win recognition! RTA and Dubai Police are introducing the ‘Delivery Sector Excellence Award’, celebrating companies that promote safety and good road behaviour among their riders. The aim is to encourage friendly competition, raise safety standards, and enhance the delivery experience for both riders and customers.
So, starting November 1, if you’re ordering food or a package in Dubai, your delivery rider might take a slightly different route, but it’s all for a good reason. The new lane restrictions are here to make the city’s roads safer, more organised, and ready for the ever-growing delivery world.
