When Is The Next Public Holiday?
First things first, the next public holiday isn’t around the corner. In fact, you’ll need to hang tight until September for your next day off that not require PTO. But don’t worry, there’s a silver lining! The upcoming public holiday is for Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, which is predicted to fall on Friday, September 5, 2025. If that date sticks, it means we’re looking at another lovely long weekend, Friday to Sunday off!
The Prophet’s birthday (PBUH) is celebrated during Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar. If that month begins on Monday, August 25, then the holiday should fall on Friday, September 5. But if the month starts a day earlier (on Sunday, August 24) then the holiday would likely fall on Thursday, September 4 instead.
Will We Get To See A Long Weekend?
Regardless of which day the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday lands, thanks to a new UAE law from 2025, Islamic holidays can be officially shifted to the start or end of the week, so residents are still likely to get that three-day weekend, no matter what!
And we just saw this law come into practice for the most recent UAE public holiday. As the Islamic New Year was officially celebrated on Thursday, June 26th, the UAE declared a public holiday for Friday, June 27th. Giving the entire country a blissful 3-day long weekend.
How To Stretch It Into A 9-Day Break!
Here’s the fun part. With just a little planning, you can turn this 3-day weekend into a 9-day vacation. And you won’t even need to use too many of your paid time off days. Here’s how you do it:
If the holiday falls on Thursday, September 4:
Take off:
- Monday, September 1
- Tuesday, September 2
- Wednesday, September 3
- Friday, September 5
If the holiday falls on Friday, September 5:
Take off:
- Monday, September 1
- Tuesday, September 2
- Wednesday, September 3
- Thursday, September 4
In both cases, your time off would stretch from Saturday, August 30 to Sunday, September 7! That’s 9 whole days to unwind, travel, or simply relax at home. And you can already bet us here at Gulf Buzz will be ready to give you the best recommendations of what to do during this holiday!
