Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is gearing up for a major transformation with a brand-new terminal that’s set to change the game for travel in the emirate. The massive AED 2 billion project is expected to be fully ready by 2028, and to span a whopping 30,000 square metres. The vision is being led by Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation and the Airport’s Board, who’s determined to turn the airport into a global gateway for visitors heading to RAK’s stunning beaches, resorts, and adventure spots. What Can Travellers Expect?
The new terminal is designed to seriously upgrade the passenger experience. I’m talking about advanced baggage handling systems, speedy electronic gates, upgraded customs, better police services, and smoother passport control. Everything is being built with convenience in mind, making travel easier and faster for everyone.
Luxury Travel Incoming
But that’s not all, RAK Airport is going all-in on luxury travel too. Sheikh Salem revealed that tenders have been opened for a new private aviation terminal, with dedicated hangars and aircraft parking for private jets. This facility will run separately from the main terminal, making it ideal for high-end travellers who prefer the VIP treatment.
Sustainability At The Core
One of the most exciting parts of this project is its commitment to sustainability. The terminal will include eco-friendly features like LED lighting, geothermal heat pumps, and water recycling. Even better, it will be the first terminal in the Middle East and Asia to use DYNAES’s thermodynamic energy efficiency technology, setting a regional milestone for green airport design.
What Airlines Will Land At RAK Airport?
Currently, airlines like Air Arabia, IndiGo, and Air India Express operate out of RAK Airport. With connections to places like Cairo, Jeddah, India, and Moscow. Negotiations are ongoing to bring even more international airlines on board, especially to cater to the increasing demand from Europe ahead of new luxury resort launches. Between January and April 2025, RAK Airport recorded 332,280 passengers – 46,841 of them arriving just in April alone.
