4 Types Of Speeding Cameras To Watch Out For & Different Traffic Fines You Can Get In Dubai

Driving in Dubai is stressful as it is, with a million different exits that can either take you straight to Sharjah or Abu Dhabi (yet never just home?). But just when you think you’ve mastered the roads, you get hit with a fine by a hidden camera that never even flashed you. Talk about a massive face palm moment. So, today I have for you the different types of traffic cameras to watch out for and what are some traffic violations fines you can get from them.

having a hidden camera give you a fine without even flashing you can be a real pain.

1. Tint-Proof Cameras

Since November 2024, Dubai has taken road safety up a notch with some seriously smart cameras. These new cameras can actually see through tinted windows! So if you think you’re safe behind your shades, think again.

These cameras are checking for:

  • Drivers not wearing seatbelts
  • People on their phones
  • Any kind of distracted driving

And it’s not just a fine anymore. Thanks to changes made under Decree No. (30) 2023, if you’re caught using your phone or doing anything else that takes your eyes off the road, you could also face a 30-day vehicle impoundment. Yep, they’re serious about keeping things safe out there.

2. AI Cameras

Dubai Police are stepping up with Artificial Intelligence-powered cameras that are laser-focused on tailgaters and other risky drivers. These radars have been tested and fine-tuned to catch violations with high accuracy. Here’s the deal if you’re caught tailgating – you get fined AED 400 and will receive 4 black points on your driving record. So, drive responsibly, keep your distance, and avoid getting fined.

3. Silent Radars (These Ones Don’t Flash!)

Say goodbye to the telltale camera flash – Dubai has rolled out ‘silent radars’ in residential areas that quietly catch violations without any warning lights.

What are they looking for?

  • Seatbelt violations
  • Phone usage while driving
  • Other unsafe habits

4. Hidden Cameras

And the most sneaky of them all are the hidden cameras. No one knows where they are (and no, I can’t help you there), but they’re out there. If you’re one of people who rely on apps like Waze to spot “speed trap ahead,” it might be time to rethink that strategy. The Dubai police know the tricks and they’re ahead of the curve with these hidden cameras. So the best advice? Put your phone down, follow the rules, and focus on the road.

But no matter which camera spots your driving violation, each case is always double-checked by the Dubai Police before fines are issued. So it’s all fair game here.
