25 Days Until Summer Officially Starts In UAE – What You Need To Know As Temps Rise Above 50ºC

We’re less than one month away from the official start of summer in the UAE! Mark your calendars because Saturday, June 21 is when the summer solstice will take place. This moment marks the longest day of the year and also signals the official beginning of summer for UAE and the northern hemisphere in general. From this point on, the heat is only going to get more intense – and if temperatures this month have been nothing but a warning, we’re definitely in for a scorcher. Here’s what you need to know as this summer heat rolls in fast!

Just The Beginning

If you’ve been thinking why this May has been unusually hot, you’re not alone. This past week alone UAE has experienced record-breaking temperatures, with the mercury soaring above 50ºC in several areas. Yes, that’s before summer has even officially started! These extreme temperatures are already pushing people to limit outdoor activities and rethink their daily routines. This early heatwave has been a reminder that the UAE’s summer doesn’t wait for a date to turn up the heat. So as we inch closer to June 21, it’s clear that this summer will require a little more caution and a lot more water.

The Days Are Getting Longer – And Hotter

Since the summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, you can expect more hours of sunlight. While that sounds great for beach lovers and early risers, it also means more time for temperatures to rise. That’s why it’s important to be prepared as the weather continues to climb. With humidity levels often rising alongside the temperature, the heat can feel even more intense than what the numbers suggest. This combo can increase the risk of heat exhaustion and sunstroke if you’re not careful.

Your Summer Safety Tips

As summer hits full force, it’s essential to take care of yourself and those around you. Here are some simple, life-saving tips to keep in mind:

1. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle if you’re out and about.

2. Dress for the Heat

  • Light-coloured clothes made of breathable fabrics like cotton are your best bet.
  • Don’t forget your sunglasses, hat, and SPF sunscreen.

3. Avoid the Peak Heat Hours

  • Try to stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM, when the sun is at its strongest.
  • If you must be outside, aim for early mornings or after sunset, when it’s slightly cooler.

4. Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion

  • Dizziness, headache, fatigue, and nausea are early signs.
  • If someone has fainted from sunstroke, move them to a cool area, elevate their feet, and offer small sips of water if they’re conscious.
  • Call emergency services if the person doesn’t regain consciousness or their condition worsens.

5. Choose Indoor or Evening Activities

  • Opt for indoor workouts, malls, or shaded parks with misters.
  • Evening walks or beach visits after sunset are much more enjoyable and safer.

Summer in the UAE has always proved to be no joke. But with a little planning, you can still enjoy the season while staying safe and cool.
