Where DIY And History Collide
StuDIYo Lab’s Ramadan and Spring Camp 2025 kicked off on March 3 with a unique theme, Travel Back in Time & Build Like the Legends! So, what does that mean for your kids? Well, unlike a typical camp where they just hear about historical geniuses, here they’ll actually build the inventions that made them famous. Pretty cool, right? Imagine your kid coming home and saying, “Mom, did you know Ibn Al-Haytham basically invented the camera? And guess what, I now know how to build one too!”
Here’s what the kids will get to explore in the StuDIYo Spring and Ramadan Camp:
- Al-Jazari’s Music Box – A nod to the pioneer of robotics! Your little ones will create mechanical music boxes, exploring how gears and pulleys create melodies.
- Ibn Al-Haytham’s Camera Obscura – Forget filters, this is where photography really started. The little explorers will craft pinhole cameras and learn all about the fundamentals of light and the origins of photography.
- Historic Sabeels – Expect hands-on fun as kids construct traditional water fountains, uncovering their deep-rooted significance in Middle Eastern culture. They will also explore how these fountains served as a symbol of generosity and community service, emphasizing the importance of giving back, an indispensable value of Ramadan.
- Flying Machines by Abbas Ibn Firnas – Budding aviators will get to design gliders, tracing the embryonic dreams of human flight. Because which kid wouldn’t want to try designing their own glider?
