RTA Opens New Bridge On Sheikh Rashid Road – Part Of Larger 4-Phase Road Improvement Project

Good news for Dubai’s drivers! The RTA has opened a 2-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road, designed to ease congestion and make your commute much smoother. This bridge connects Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and spans 605 meters, with a capacity to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour. Here are all the details you need to know if you’re a frequent flyer on these bridges!

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project

This bridge is part of the ambitious Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project’s fourth phase, which focuses on enhancing road connectivity and managing high traffic volumes. In total, 4 new bridges are being constructed, stretching across 3.1 kilometres and capable of managing a combined 19,400 vehicles per hour. The project aims to streamline traffic across 15 intersections while serving key locations like Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, and Port Rashid. The first bridge in this phase, which opened in December 2024, already benefits commuters. This three-lane structure spans 1,335 meters and supports traffic from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection.

What’s Next?

Here’s a glimpse of the upcoming developments:

  • Mid-2025: Two three-lane bridges will be operational.
    • One will link Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, extending 1,210 meters.
    • The other will connect Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road, spanning 780 meters.
    • Both are designed to manage 4,800 vehicles per hour.
  • Late 2025: A two-lane bridge linking Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection will open. This 985-meter bridge can handle 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Additional Upgrades To The Roadwork In Dubai

The project doesn’t stop at bridges. It also includes:

  • Road Development: 4.8 kilometers of upgraded roads.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Two new pedestrian bridges, one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street.
  • Modernised Infrastructure: Enhanced intersections, rainwater drainage, street lighting, and irrigation systems.

Real Benefits For Drivers

By 2030, this project will drastically reduce travel times in the area – from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes. This improvement isn’t just about saving time; it’s projected to save AED 45 billion over 20 years, thanks to better traffic flow and enhanced safety.

With every new bridge and upgraded road, Dubai moves closer to its vision of a smarter, more efficient city!
